Distinguished Speaker Series by Prof Michael Barzelay
On 27th June’23, Professor Michael Barzelay, Professor of Public Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science, took a session on “Preparing to Design by Learning from Experience” during Abhyuday 2023 for the IMT Hyderabad students.
During this session, Professor Barzelay introduced multiple management frameworks that focussed on designing businesses, organizations, and initiatives. Bring forth the ideas of Aristotle, Henri Fayol, and Michael Porter; he proposed a basic management framework and elucidated the stages in designing management processes. He made the audience understand how various management frameworks captured an organization's numerous functions and the Designing Process's importance.
He also discussed how the management framework and processes were designed for planning the solid-waste sanitation program during the 2019 Kumbh Mela. The students also got valuable insights from Ms. Saloni Goel, who was involved with this project. Before the session came to its conclusion, Professor Barzelay patiently answered the queries of the students. The session ended with a vote of thanks from Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Gupta, Chairperson – International Relations.
