IMT Hyderabad, 23rd October 2024 – Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Hyderabad, organized a batch address by HCL Tech, an Indian multinational IT company, particularly for PGDM (IT) students. The session was about “Embracing Leadership: Shaping your Future Today”. The featured guests were Mr. Prasath Panneerselvam, Head- of Campus Relations at HCL; Ms. Saman Wasim, Senior Management Trainee; and Ms. Anandi Saini, Recruiter, B- School.
To start the session on a light note, Mr. Panneerselvam asked all the students to tell one thing about themselves and one of their dreams or aspirations. With this, he discussed his idea of leadership and how that mindset helps him in his day-to-day life. He shared seven points that he feels can create the difference between being a follower and being a leader, which were as follows:
1. Vision Power- Mr. Panneerselvam shared how, over the course of his journey in corporate life, he has shaped his vision. He stressed upon the importance of asking questions, upskilling oneself and never backoff when an opportunity is presented.
2. Embrace Responsibility, Not Power- For him, Leadership is all about the realization of the responsibility of others on you and not the power that position holds. Being empathetic towards those working with you and for you is what makes the difference between being a leader and a boss.
3. Courage to Take Actions- While sharing his corporate journey, the speaker emphasized how crucial it is to get out of your comfort zone to grow as an individual. Changing job roles plays a big part in developing oneself for the competitive nature of the corporate world.
4. Lead with Integrity- Mr. Panneerselvam, with the help of his personal experience as an example, spoke on the importance of integrity to walk on the path of being a leader.
5. Collaboration over Competition- The understanding of when to compete and when to collaborate marks the quality of a leader. Mr. Panneerselvam talked about collaboration being more important than competition for success in the long run.
6. Failure is a Stepping Stone- Mr. Panneerselvam shared his personal instances where he failed and learned from his mistakes. The key takeaway was to learn from the mistakes and not repeat them.
7. Service to Others- Lastly, he talked about the importance of giving service to others to know more about yourself as an individual. He mentioned the HCL Foundation which is involved in giving back to the community in numerous ways.
Towards the end of the session, the floor was opened to the students for QnA, wherein Mr. Panneerselvam very gracefully talked about the skills necessary for future job roles and how AI can help enhance Human Intelligence (HI) to make lives better. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from a first-year PGDM student, Kanak Sharma, and a group photograph capturing the cooperative spirit of the event.
