Distinguished Speaker Session By Mr Alok S Madhukar
IMT Hyderabad, 19th July 2024: Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Hyderabad, hosted a Distinguished Speaker Session by Mr. Alok Madhukar, Managing Director, Goldman Sachs, on 19th July 2024. The central theme of the session was to help students understand how Goldman Sachs has leveraged evolving technologies in its operations.
Kicking off the session, the speaker shared his excitement to connect with MBA students and delved into storytelling, sharing his journey at Goldman Sachs, from joining as an analyst in 2006 to becoming its managing director. When asked about his long and dedicated tenure at Goldman Sachs, Mr. Madhukar highlighted the significance of finding meaning in one's work. He advised students to assess the organization's purpose and the quality of the end product to ensure alignment with their personal values and professional aspirations.
While talking about the operations of Goldman Sachs, Mr. Madhukar explained to the students how an investment bank functions to help companies manage their finances. He also covered derivative products like Credit Default Swaps and discussed their involvement in the financial crisis of 2008.
The speaker addressed how AI is now in a hype cycle. He mentioned that its recent increase in popularity is partly due to the current user-friendliness of AI as well as the huge amount of data that is now easily available. On the topic of emerging technologies, Mr. Alok Madhukar remarked that quantum computing is expected to achieve a similar level of prominence as AI in the near future.
Upon the successful conclusion of the session, Prof. (Dr.) V C Chakrapani, Dean Academics, IMT Hyderabad, felicitated Mr. Alok Madhukar with a memento and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for engaging the students in a thought-provoking discussion.
