Hyderabad, 1st August 2019: Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad organized a leadership program, with Dr. Ramesh Babu Thimmaraya, Head of Quantitative Research at Ernst and Young India. He conducted an informative session on “Applied Quantitative Techniques”, spread over two days on 30th July 2019 and on 1st August 2019 for the first and second-year students. He also interacted with the faculty members of the institute and discussed with them the contemporary quantitative tools used for management research.
Dr. Ramesh Babu Thimmaraya holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics, MTech from IIT Madras, MBA NITIE and FRM (GARP USA) CFA. He has been a former advisor to Swiss Bank and is currently an advisor to Deutsche Bank. Dr. Babu is a task force central committee member to All India Board for Management Studies (AIBMS) under AICTE, Government of India. He has authored the book “Dynamics of Financial Stress and Economic Performance: Insights and Analysis from the World Economy “and has also published 28 research papers in the area of Applied Mathematics.
Dr. Ramesh Babu gave his futuristic view on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science which was effectively utilized by companies like Ford, Google, and Facebook who are now the market leaders in their respective domains. He also talked about how the evolution of AI will replace people involved in mundane jobs by more efficient and highly trained robots. In the context of big data analytics, he shared his insights on data mining and stated that 99.94% to 99.98% is “Garbage" or irrelevant. He strongly emphasized the difficulties in extracting useful information from the large pool of data generated every day.
Through various technical concepts like ANOVA, Time Series Modelling, and Markov Model among others, Dr. Ramesh Babu stressed on the importance of Analytics in the current business scenario by citing the example of Reliance Industries and explained the multi- dimensional nature of analytics across all essential functions of an organization be it marketing, finance or operations.
Nowadays with the rapid evolution of technology, IMT Hyderabad believes that it is vital for management students to be able to adapt and equip themselves with the necessary skills required to be an essential part of and add value to such a dynamic environment.
